The Ontario Under 17 Program of Excellence, which the HDCO facilitates on behalf of the 3 Ontario Branches, has developed a number of players and team personnel who have gone onto successful professional careers. Team Ontario alumni include NHL stars such as Eric Lindros, Owen Nolan, Mike Peca, Chris Pronger, Ed Jovanovski, Joe Thornton, Jason Spezza, Rick Nash and Eric Staal. Former coaches and administrators for Team Ontario include Marc Crawford, head coach of the Los Angeles Kings, Sam McMaster, former General Manager of the Los Angeles Kings and Sherry Bassin, General Manager of the Erie Otters.
Most recently, Team Ontario captured Silver at the 2010 WHC in Timmins and Gold at both the 2009 and 2008 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge events held in Port Alberni, BC and London, ON respectively. They also won gold at the 2007 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse, Yukon. In 2006, Team Ontario placed 5th at the World Hockey Challenge and in January 2005 Team Ontario placed fourth in the 2005 World Hockey Challenge in Lethbridge, Alberta. January of 2004 Team Ontario captured the Gold Medal at the World Hockey Challenge in St. John's Newfoundland. At the 2003 Canada Winter Games held in Bathurst, New Brunswick, Team Ontario captured the Bronze medal. In January of 2002 Team Ontario captured the Bronze Medal at the 2002 World Hockey Challenge in Selkirk and Stonewall Manitoba.
In January of 2001 Team Ontario captured the Bronze Medal at the 2001 World Hockey Challenge in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. In January of 2000 Team Ontario captured the Silver Medal at the 2000 World Hockey Challenge in Timmins, Ontario. In February of 1999, Team Ontario finished fourth 1999 Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland.
In January of 1998, Team Ontario won the Gold Medal at the International Hockey Championship in Kitchener, Ontario by defeating the Czech Republic 3-2 in double overtime.
