TEAM ONTARIO ANNOUNCES UNDER 17 COACHING STAFF
Toronto – The Team Ontario Under-17 Policy Committee, along with Director of Operations, Mike Futa, are pleased to announce the appointments of Bob McGill as Head Coach, Marty Williamson and Jason Brooks as Assistant Coaches for the Ontario Under-17 Team for the next two playing seasons.
“We are pleased and confident that the appointments that have been made will provide the Ontario Team Under-17 Program with outstanding leadership as well as a commitment to team excellence for the next two consecutive seasons, noted Futa.”
Head Coach Bob McGill is currently the Head Coach of the York Simcoe Express Minor Midget team. McGill has also held coaching positions with the Baton Rouge Kingfish of the ECHL and Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League after a playing career of 14 seasons in the National Hockey League.
Assistant Coaches Marty Williamson and Jason Brooks will also bring a wealth of experience to the program. Brooks is currently an Assistant Coach with the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League and Marty Williamson is the Head Coach of the Aurora Tigers of the Ontario Hockey Association.
The staff will be preparing for the upcoming Ontario Under-17 Provincial Camp to be held at York University, dates to be confirmed. Players will be attending the camp vying for a position on the Ontario Under-17 Team that will represent the Province at the 2005 World Hockey Challenge in Lethbridge, Alberta.
The Ontario Under-17 Program is a component of Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence and is coordinated through the Hockey Development Centre for Ontario. The program receives financial support from the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Recreation. In total, more than 1,000 players will participate at regional identification camps this Spring.
