GREATER TORONTO HOCKEY LEAGUE TO HOST 2004 PROVINCIAL UNDER 17 CAMP

TORONTO – The Ontario Under 17 Policy Committee is pleased to announce that the Greater Toronto Hockey League will host the 2004 Under 17 Provincial Camp.

The venue for this year’s camp will be the Beatrice Ice Gardens located on the campus of York University.   The provincial camp, which will convene August 13-15, 2004, will feature eighty of the top 16-year-old hockey players identified from regional camps conducted throughout the province, providing representation from each branch and division in Ontario.  In total, over 1,000 players will attend regional talent identification camps in April and May.

The goal of the provincial camp is to provide players with an intensive, high-caliber training opportunity as well as a positive learning experience, both on and off the ice.   Twenty-two players will ultimately be selected to represent Team Ontario at the 2005 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Lethbridge, Alberta.  The tournament will run from December 29, 2004 to January 4, 2005.

The Ontario Under 17 Program is an integral component of Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence and is coordinated through the Hockey Development Centre for Ontario and its member organizations.  The Under 17 Program continues to provide high performance competition and development for players, coaches and trainers as well as identifying the elite athlete for future national programs.
